February begins with Hugo’s debut in the 2025 season of the international table tennis circuit, kicking off with one of the biggest tournaments of the year: the WTT Singapore Smash. The event belongs to the WTT’s most important series, comparable to a tennis Grand Slam.

Ranked sixth in the world, Hugo enters the WTT Singapore Smash as the #6 seed. Only one of the Top 20 players won’t be there – check out the full list of players here.

In addition to the singles bracket, Hugo will also compete in the mixed doubles tournament alongside Bruna Takahashi. It will be the partnership’s first competition on the international circuit since the 2019 Hungarian Open.

BRAZILIANS IN SINGAPORE

In addition to Hugo, two other Brazilians have already secured their places in the main draw: Vitor Ishiy in the men’s singles and Bruna Takahashi in the women’s singles.

The country will also have representatives in the doubles. In the men’s doubles, Vitor Ishiy and Guilherme Teodoro will line up in a 100% Brazilian partnership, while Leonardo Iizuka will compete alongside Australian Hwan Bae.

In the mixed doubles, as well as Hugo and Bruna, the country will be represented by Giulia Takahashi, who will play with Australian Finn Lu.

COMPETITION SYSTEM

All the matches in the WTT Singapore Smash will take place in a single-elimination system. Singles matches will be played in best of five games until the round of 16. From the quarter-finals onwards, the matches will be best of 7 games.
